A Shot of Glamour
Vaccine shots! We all need them but most dread them. Vaccine shots help us stay healthy and avoid diseases. I can remember the days of lining up at school, waiting for the school nurse to give the dreaded shot in the arm. I was never one to be afraid of the shots but I have to admit I did let myself get a little anxious over it. I remember observing my schoolmates. Some reacted like it was nothing. Others began crying, displaying pain. While others decided to ditch the line at the last minute and avoid the shot completely. One thing is certain there is nothing glamorous about getting your vaccine shots.
That brings to mind some shots that were not quite as nerve racking as vaccine shots. Glamour shots! I had an opportunity to take some glamour shots and it reminded me of those days of waiting in line with anticipation of what it was going to be like to finally get my shot. I went to a local motel for the appointment and upon entering the “shot” room, I saw several ladies with their hair in rollers. Some of them had freshly applied makeup, while others had no makeup at all.
After scanning the room, I headed toward the back, sat down, and immediately began contemplating how long I might have to wait. At first I was impatient and wanted my turn to arrive, but after a while I sat back and watched. The ladies had arrived with no makeup and most appeared to be having a very bad hair day and then I watched as each one became glamorous before my very eyes. It was amazing how the makeup artist and hairstylist worked their magic. The photographer added to the display of beauty by adorning the women with fancy jewelry and beautiful clothes. Each lady was encouraged to relax and smile. The shots truly did seem painless after all.
I truly enjoyed watching the ladies become glamorous with their fancy hairstyles, sparkling jewelry and beautiful clothes. It was so wonderful to see their beautiful smiles as they took the shots. I was enjoying the show so much that I almost hated when it was my turn. However, at last it was my turn for glamour and I enjoyed every pampering minute of it! Nevertheless, after being enticed by the amazing transformations of these women’s external beauty, I wondered about their internal beauty. What were these ladies facing in their lives and how were they handling it? Did they handle their lives with beautiful hearts?
It caused me to reflect on a scripture in the bible, 1Peter 3:3-5, which infers that our hearts need glamour as well.
1 Peter 3:3-5
Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight. For this is the way the holy women of the past who put their hope in God used to adorn themselves.
Jesus Christ is able to beautify our hearts. Make a daily appointment with him for a shot of glamour that will transform your heart. Then you will be able to relax and smile when life comes at you with some really hard shots!
Dear Jesus,
Thank you that you are my heart keeper . Thank you that you are able to identify the ugliness in my heart and beautify it when I let you. Help me when life hits me with some shots that I don't expect. Bless me with a beautiful heart so that I can show others how beautiful you really are.
